Béla Bartók's Hungary to Europe of Cultures
From
Béla Bartók’s Hungary to a Europe of Cultures is
the theme of the second edition of the "Festival Redentore
ettnic@ 2004 Peoples Voices, Sounds, and Visions". Just
as with previous edition this year’s Ettnic@ Festival aims to make
contact between culturally diverse traditions, knowing that only
through dialogue and mutual understanding can different people live
together harmoniously. Hungary’s recent entry into the European
Union offers a perfect occasion to dedicate the Festival’s 2004
edition to one of the fathers of contemporary music, a tribute to
Béla
Bartók. The event takes place from 10 to 17 July, taking in a rich
musical showcase and exhibition, all dedicated to the Hungarian
master and all entry free.
Corte
dei Cordami square on the Giudecca, Redentore Church, Santi Cosma e
Damiano ex convent all provide a varied spaces as well as the Teatro
Fondamenta Nuove where the concert series for 2004 opens.
The
ties between the two cultures will further be displayed in an
unusual exhibition in the CTR’s space in Santi Cosma e Damiano ex
convent, Giudecca: here Zoltán Móser’s images and István Gaál’s
documentary film will be confronted with memories, a dedication to
the Hungarian musician by the noted venetian composer Luigi Nono.
