Makám The legacy of Bartók and Kodály; the synthesis of elements of archaic cultures and the contemporary age, East and West, the collective and the individual, the archaic union and the searching for harmony is the continuing musical credo of the MAKÁM Group. The Group, founded by Zoltán Krulik in 1984, was the first true ambassador of East-European etno-avantgard musical life. Muzsikás & Márta Sebestyén The world famous Hungarian folk singer, Márta Sebestyén, and the well known traditional folk group Muzsikás have performed together for many years in Hungary and all over the world and in the most prestigious theatres and concert halls. They perform traditional melodies from Hungary, Transylvania and Moldavia, especially those originally collected by Bartók and Kodály during their trips at the beginning of the twentieth century. Members: Márta Sebestyén (voce), Dániel Hamar (contrabbasso, gardon, drum), Mihály Sipos (violino, zither), Péter Eri (viola, mandolino, flauto, chitarra), László Porteleki (violino, koboz).

Inauguration of the Documentary exhibition Sala CTR Ex Convento San Cosma e Damiano (Giudecca)  6.00 pm

On the tracks of Béla Bartók  A portrait of the famous musician and composer through the pictures of Zoltán Móser, the memoirs of Luigi nono and the film of István Gaál  Aiming to offer a fuller portrait of the one of the most famous Hungarian pianists and composers, a significant exhibition at the ex convent Santi Cosma e Damiano on the Giudecca will be accompanying the music that he inspired. For the first time together the testimonies of Zoltán Móser, Luigi Nono and István Gaál will shed light on Béla Bartók.

Márta Sebestyén "I have seen the high skies" Márta Sebestyén is one of the most authentic interpreters of Hungarian traditional folk music. She is the  single voice that the world associates with Hungarian folk songs. Tonight she performs mostly religious songs collected by Bartók with the accompaniment of Balázs Szokolay Dongó and Mátyás Bolya. Members: Márta Sebestyén (voce, tilinkó/tipo di flauto), Szokolay Dongó Balázs (fluati etnici, bagpipe ungherese), Bolya Mátyás (lute, zither).

Weiner-Szász Orchestra The Weiner-Szász Orchestra, established in 1992, cultivates the best Hungarian tradition in chamber music drawing inspiration from musicians such as Bartók, Britten, Haydn, Liszt, Mozart, Stravinsky and Weiner. In this performance the musicians play a repertoire of popular pieces taken from Ligeti, Mozart, Bartók. György SZABADOS piano soloGyörgy Szabados, well-known character in improvisative contemporary music accross Europe. Nevertheless, Szabados is not a "jazz musician". His music is extraordinarily dynamic, a European and Hungarian music. His creative approach is based on the harmony between composition and free improvisation, music as  natural language and on man as  its refined intermediator.

Ektar The name Ektar is an Indian word which means “one string”: The band, indeed, try to play as if members played on only one string, harmonizing the sounds coming from different musical cultures such as Oriental, African or East European, especially from Béla Bartók’s pieces. Members: Róbert Benkó (contrabbasso), Evelin Tóth (canto), Szabolcs  Szőke (gadulka, sarangi), Dániel Kardos (chitarra)

István Gaál present Gyökerek István Gaál, the Hungarian director, well known for his documentary film about the modern human condition, presents the film Gyökerek, about the life of Béla Bartók, screened during the artistic exhibition.FURTHER

Jánosi Ensemble The Jánosi Ensemble introduces the audience to traditional folk dance music which is rooted in the 18th century Hungarian musical traditions as well as Hungarian dances of the 18th century manuscripts. Another important field of the Ensemble's activity is to present the musical roots of great Hungarian composers. During this performance the band introduces folk music sources of some Bartók and Kodály compositions  Members: Jánosi András (violino), Turi András (viola, kontra), Kiss Csaba (contrabbasso, bass viol), Szűcs Miklós (voce, koboz, zither), Danhauser Zoltán (violino), Horváth Károly (cembalo, hurdy-gurdy).

Dante Cigarini in il CONTASORIE e  LA VALIGIA DELLE MERAVIGLIE  The storyteller Dante Cigarini tells two tales for children called Contastorie and La Valigia delle Meraviglie; in the first one the protagonist is a strange character with a barrel organ; in the second one a magician finds funny animals in a bag.

Batistococo The famous Venetian orchestra, playing salsa and merengue, presents a combinations of pieces characterised by traditional African and Caraibic sounds. Members: Stefano Bonello (basso, cori), Franco Busetto (tromba), Patrizio Hidrobo (voce), Eddy De Fanti (timbales, voce), Cesare Pasqualetto (piano, cori), Rolando Roveratto (voce, guiro), Francesco Satini (timbales, bongos, voci, coreografie), Gianni Scanu (congas), Giorgio Schiavon (sax, cori), Maurizio Scomparin (tromba, flicorno), Paolo Vianello (piano elettrico).

 Le Baruffe Chiozzotte di Carlo Goldoni The famous comedy, staged for the first time at the San Luca theatre in 1762, is performed in the evocative setting of Corte dei Cordami, the ideal context for a such popular work. Goldoni’s comedy translates into a sort of ’explosion of feeling' through the live voices of people.  Members: Stefano Spiller (Padron Toni), Laura Dal Bianco (Madama Pasqua), Sara Callisto (Lucietta), Francesco Dalla Riva (Titta Nane), Roberto Macchi (Beppe), Tiziano Dal Bianco (Padron Fortunato), Marinella Castellini (Madama Libera), Laura Nicolini (Orsetta), Alessandra Adami (Checca), Giancarlo Dalla Mura (Padron Vincenzo), Patrizia Guerzoni (Toffolo), Alessandro Venza (Isidoro), Thomas Carraio (Il Commandador Cannocchia).

Tin Tin Quintet The Tin Tin Quintet is one of the most characteristic representative of East European Etnojazz. They draw their inspiration from different kinds of music such as Oriental music and the Hungarian folk tradition.Componenti: András Monori (kaval, gadulka, sax-soprano, bansuri), Szabolcs Szőke (gadulka, sarangi, kalimba, sansa), Peter Szalai (tabla, kalimba, percussioni), Nyusztay Iván (ghatam, kanjira, percussioni), Dániel Kardos (chitarra)

Mihály Dresch QuartetMihály Dresch strives to fill the forms of expression used by folk traditions of his own culture. In the "new Dresch Quartet" István Baló returned to the drums, "Öcsi" Kovács stayed at the vilolin and the trumpet, and young and talented Mátyás Szandai took over the double bass. Members: Mihály Dresch (sassofono), István Baló (percussioni), Öcsi Kovács (violino, tromba), Mátyás Szandai (contrabbasso).

TatrosThe Tatros Band was founded in 1988 in Budapest. The members of the band collect and learn the archaic traditions - first of all instrumental and vocal music, dance and customs - at their origins. They perform their music in an authentic style, mixed with their own musical experiences  Members:  Petrás Mária (voce, percussioni), Ladány Ferenc (flauti), Kiss Csaba (flauti), Horváth Gyula (koboz, voce, gardon), Benke Felix (percussioni, mouth-whistle), Fülöp Attila (danza).

Söndörgő The Söndörgő band tries to preserve the diversified and rich folk music tradition of the Southern Slav nationalities living in Hungary, mainly those of the Serbs, Croats, and Dalmats, with perfomances faithful to traditions both in arrangement and interpretation. The Balcanic sound of Söndörgő is really suitable for the traditional dancing Friday of Ettnic@.  Members: Áron Eredics (pramtambur, tarabuka, tapan, bassprimtambur), Dávid Eredics (pramtambur, clarinetto, flauto, kaval), Attila Buzás (basspramtambur, contrabbasso, litarka), Benjámin Eredics (contratambur), Szlobodán Wertetics (accordeon, cellotambur).

                                                   SATURDAY 17th JULY   

To close the festival,  waiting the night fire of the Redentore, they are two bands of the Hungarian folk music which will meet with the traditional Venetian "Bolgia" in the striking context of the Riva Of The Zitelle, where they will perform six short concerts in acoustic.

Fanfare Complexa  Fanfare Complexa plays dance music from Moldova, with saxophone, flute, koboz and percussion, drawing inspiration from musicians that work in the popular tradition. Members: Bede Péter (sassofoni), Sófalvi Kiss Csaba (sassofoni), Tűzkő Csaba (sassofoni), Földi Lehel (flauto), Róka Szabolcs (koboz), Benke Félix (percussione).

Szilvási GypsySzilvási Gypsy Folk Band combines authentic folk music taken from different dialects of Gypsy tradition with their own particular interpretations, using their own compositions and unusual instruments, like the kanna. Members: Szilvási István (cantante, cucchiaio), Suha István (contrabbasso), Varga Krisztián (cucchiaio), Scheer Barbara (ballerina), Balogh Tibor (kanna), Bangó Tibor (chitarra), Balogh Rudolf (chitarra), Olah László (cembalo).
